Frequently asked questions:

What is a baylayage, and how is it different than highlights?

Balayage is a hair coloring technique that involves hand-painting highlights onto the hair, creating a, sun-kissed look. The word balayage" comes from the French word meaning "to sweep" or "to paint." This technique is popular because it allows for a more customized and natural-looking result compared to traditional foil highlights.

Traditional foil highlights are a hair coloring technique that involves separating small sections of hair and applying lightener to them using foil. This method creates a contrast between the highlighted strands and the natural hair color, resulting in a multidimensional look. It's a popular choice for those looking to add brightness and dimension to their hair.

What is different about curl cult perms?

Traditional perms use harsh chemicals to break down the hair's natural structure and create curls. Curl cult perms, on the other hand, use a gentler formula, utilizing pea protein, that is less damaging to the hair. Additionally, curl cult perms create more natural-looking curls and waves, while traditional perms have only ever been able to rearrange the hair molecules into an "S" wave, even when wrapped on spiral rods.  Curl cult is the first and only perm that can rearrange those molecules to the "C" shape which is needed for actual curls.  S and C are identifiers used to describe the shape of the hair follicle needed to create either waves or curls. Curl cult is so diverse we can even perm braids. The shape your hair makes when you braid it over night and wear it wavy the next day, curl cult can make that permanent.  It can even perm out cowlicks. If you need volume at the base only, we can do that too.  Curl cult has a wide variety of problem solving solutions, as well as creating beautiful, long lasting curls.

How can I ensure that I get the haircut or haircolor I want?

Everyone has different communication styles. Brown to someone is black to someone else, long to some, may be short to others.  Hairdressers also have a vocabulary that not everyone is familiar with, so we sometimes are on different pages.  The best thing that you can do for yourself, and your future hair, is think about the style that suits you and look online for images of the cut or color that you want.  It works best if you choose photos of hair that is similar in texture and/or weight. Save the photos in an album, save many because most photos will focus on the view from the front.  But we love to see all angles.

Do I need an appointment to get a haircut?

Our stylists usually come in for appointments and sometimes head home for lunch or early if they have a short day booked. If you want a same day appointment, usually we can accommodate.  But if you're just walking by and hoping to pop in for a spot, it is pretty rare that a stylist will be sitting around with enough available time to give you a proper service, without rushing.  It is better for everyone to either book yourself online or text us first at 562.841.2973.
